In habeas corpus proceedings, a petitioner presents
evidence and argument that his or her constitutional rights were violated
at trial. Because there are infinite ways for state actors to violate the
Constitution, there is no complete checklist for the competent
investigation of claims in post-conviction proceedings. However, certain
claims are commonly investigated and regularly provide basis for relief.
The links above contain summaries of cases that support these commonly
addressed claims. If you know of other successful cases not included on this website, please
contact HAT.
